In the Beginning
Long before there were houses, roads and ferries, great trees grew beside the river on Wallumedegal Country. Powerful Owls lived among the old hollows.

A story born beside the river
Buff lives in a hollow of an ancient gum tree near Glades Bay in Gladesville, Sydney. She is learning to fly, finding her courage and discovering what it means to be different.
Her story takes place on Wallumedegal Country, in the bushland beside the river now known as the Parramatta River. The real Powerful Owls photographed here inspired this imaginary adventure.
Although real Powerful Owls are carnivorous birds of prey, Buff is a fictional vegetarian owl whose unlikely friendships are part of the magic.
